Australian Made And Owned

Megan Kennedy
Based in Melbourne, Megan Kennedy is a Barkindji Aboriginal artist, journalist and photographer and the founder of Freedom Through Dreamtime.
Family, Country, culture and stories continue to live through her creative practice.
Megan’s Barkindji heritage comes through her father’s side, and the connection to her family, Country, culture and stories continues to live through her creative practice. Through Freedom Through Dreamtime, Megan creates contemporary Aboriginal artwork that blends culture, imagination and personal expression, primarily working with acrylics on canvas.
A signature element of Megan’s artwork is glitter — a playful yet meaningful addition that represents the earth and landscape of Broken Hill, while also acknowledging and celebrating the queer community.
At 35, Megan is a creative in every sense of the word. Alongside her art, she works as a photographer and writer, continually finding new ways to tell stories, create connection and bring ideas to life. She is a big dreamer, always a little messy in the chase of art, and believes deeply in following your own magic.
Her creative journey has already taken her from local projects and exhibitions to international collectors, with a recent gallery exhibition resulting in one of her works finding a home in Scotland. Her artwork has also been featured on tote bags for an Aboriginal organisation, and she is the creator of Desert Flowers — an art exhibition bringing together visual art, music, guest speakers and food to create a space for culture, creativity and community.
Through Freedom Through Dreamtime, Megan hopes to inspire others — particularly those with creative dreams of their own — to take the leap, chase their ideas and find their own magic. She also hopes to use her creative journey to support and uplift mob, creating opportunities, celebrating Aboriginal voices and giving back to the community wherever she can.
Peace. Love. Unity.
Always Was, Always Will Be.
